New York City’s premier monument is unarguably the Statue of Liberty. Created by the freemason Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, from the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, it is clad in copper (the metal associated with Venus) and boasts classical symbolic imagery.
Seven spikes, or thorns, adorn her crown, in the great tradition of Helios and Sol Invictus worship from Pagan Rome. This is surely the motif of the “crown of thorns” Jesus was mockingly forced to wear in the gospel account of his crucifixion.
Her right arm holds high a torch, symbolizing the light of wisdom that guides humanity through our dark night of ignorance and fear.
In her left hand is a tablet that bears the symbolic date of the Declaration of Independence – the world’s most famous secular government document that justified a revolution against the tyranny of monarchy.
There are more little details, but the gist of it tells us that the statue embodies astrological allusions. Can we uncover those when we look at the astrological circumstances of the monument? Of course we can, or I wouldn’t be writing about it here. As I will show, the statue’s symbolic motif combines three celestial deities: The Sun, Venus, and the fixed star Sirius.
The 33

The statue was placed on an island in Hudson Bay, atop an older battlement that was erected to defend the USA from the British, etc. The eleven-pointed star-shaped military bastion, then called “the works on Bedloe Island,” was completed in 1811. As shown above, the alignment of the structure is exactly 33° offset from the local longitudinal meridian.
This means that we can be sure the statue is facing directly into the Sun when the Sun attains an azimuth of 147°. This will be important later.
Also, as will be shown, Venus and Jupiter – the two natural astrological “benefics” – make a 33° aspect in the chart for the cornerstone of the pedestal of the statue. Furthermore, Sirius culminates over New York City at an altitude just shy of 33°.
The Pedestal and Cornerstone

As can be seen in the above plaque donated by the New York Grand Lodge, the cornerstone was placed in a Masonic ceremony on August 5, 1884. This date was obviously chosen for one reason: it was the date of the heliacal rising of Sirius at that location in New York.
There were some other noteworthy astrological things going on that day as well. A [tropical zodiac] chart for noon (minus the then-unknown Pluto) reveals an abundance of pentacle aspects:

We find not one, but two 5th Harmonic “Qods” [similar to Yods, but in the 5th Harmonic]:
- Moon = Mercury -72- Saturn
- Uranus = Venus -144- BML
This is with 2° orbs, as shown at the right.
Does the statue have much to do with the mystical pentacle shape? Was this the impetus behind these shapes on the grounds of the island that were added in the 1930s?

The astrology gets more interesting when we add on the extra ring of our favorite fixed stars:

- Venus = Sirius
- Uranus = Zavijava
- BML = Antares
- Saturn = Mintaka
Not only was that date the heliacal rising of Sirius, Venus was also in conjunction. When we place the Behenian stars on the outer ring, we can see that those same four conjunctions remain, although Capella has replaced Mintaka, and Alkaid stands in for Zavijava:

I stated my claim earlier that the Statue Of Liberty, or SOL for short, amalgamates the celestial deities of the Sun, Venus, and Sirius. The conjunction of Venus and Sirius in the cornerstone astrology is surely no coincidence. The next graphic is a sky map for the same day, but for the moment that the Sun and Sirius are parallel in altitude, specifically 7:02:25 am EST. Notice that a nearly perfect tetrahedral shape can be traced between the three bodies, with Procyon at the apex:

A more detailed view; Procyon is in the center of the triangle:

Procyon and/or Venus is off-center by just a tad, but well within my one-degree rule of closer-enough-than-horseshoes. To be sure, the azimuthal values are as follows:
| Sun | 86°34′ |
| Venus | 111°55′ |
| Sun/Sirius midpoint | 112°59′ |
| Procyon | 112°26′ |
| Sirius | 139°23′ |
For my work on Procyon being encoded in the Washington Monument, see here, here, here, and here.
The Date on the Tablet
As mentioned earlier, the tablet in the left arm of the statue bears the date of Independence, and so a quick look at both charts is in order:

Of note, interchart aspects within 1° orb:
| Declaration of Indie | Aspect | Cornerstone |
|---|---|---|
| Mars | 0 | Saturn |
| Sun | 30 | Sun |
| Jupiter | 60 | Mercury |
| Saturn | 60 | Jupiter |
| Moon | 90 | Neptune |
| Jupiter | 90 | Mars |
| Jupiter | 120 | Ascendant |
| North Node | 120 | Black Moon (BML) |
The prevalence of Jupiter in this table seems to deviate from probability, though Mars is in a semi-sextile to both Mercury and Ascendant.
The 147° Azimuth
The three planets symbolized in the SOL reach the azimuth the statue faces at these times of the Cornerstone-laying day:
- Sirius: 07:35:22 am
- Venus: 08:46:28 am
- Sun: 11:01:10 am
If the Venus time rings a distant bell, you won’t want to miss Part 2.
